The 6'3" right handed pitcher agreed to terms with the Angels and put pen to paper on the first day of February 2009 after producing strong performances at the Australian Under-18 National Championships in Perth, Western Australia.
Los Angeles Angels scout Grant Weir who is based in Australia commented recently on his latest acquisition to the Angels system by saying "The Angels are very excited with the signing of Aaron and we believe he has an enormous future in professional baseball. He has physical attributes that are going to help him have a long and fruitful career - but more importantly he is a great kid who works hard."
Baseball is Aaron's chosen path, however it was not always this way. Being a great athlete Aaron enjoyed success at two sports during his younger years - those sports being soccer and baseball. In these younger years Aaron was selected in a myriad of representative teams in both soccer and baseball and as such with continued success in these two sports it was only a matter of time until one would have to give way for the other.
In 2004 it was soccer that was the winner as Aaron started to focus his energies into this sport for the next two years. This strong commitment resulted in selection to further representative teams and it appeared that Aaron's soccer skills were going to propel him to lofty heights in the soccer world.
However in 2007 an intense desire to resume baseball was too strong to ignore, and after a two year absence Aaron was back to the game where he felt most comfortable. Now with his focus firmly on baseball Aaron gained selection in 2007 to the NSW Under-16 state team. Success in baseball continued and selection to the NSW Under-18 state team was again achieved in 2008 and 2009 as Aaron competed in three consecutive Australian National Baseball Championships.
Shortly following Aaron's signing with the Angels came selection to the Australian Schoolboys team which toured the USA in September, 2009. Also in 2009 Aaron participated in the elite Major League Baseball Australian Academy (MLBAAP) where he was fortunate to continue his development under the guidance of some of Australia's best coaches. Angels scout Grant Weir said recently "The Angels were extremely happy with the performances of Aaron at the MLBAAP where he also got his innings in as well as getting some outstanding instruction."
Aaron, who is currently in year 12 at St Dominic's College, Penrith, shared his thoughts on signing to play professional baseball by saying "I really feel privileged to have been given this opportunity, it's what I've always wanted. I really cannot see myself doing anything else. I'm really excited and I can't wait to get over to the USA and show what I can do."
Getting over to the USA will have to wait until 2010 as Aaron completes his schooling in 2009. However getting over to the USA is just around the corner and no doubt Aaron will be working hard in preparing for his first pro season.
(Aaron would like to make a special mention to the following persons for assistance and guidance in his development as a pitcher: Garry Everson, Chris Cole and Barry Holland)
